Intel has reportedly “eliminated” its wearable division, a year after it issued a recall of all Basis Peak smartwatches, due to frequent overheating. The division had already lost most of its workers in November, when Intel slashed 80 percent of the Basis team, according to CNBC.

“Through HP and partner technology, we are unleashing engineers, architects, designers and students to help anticipate and solve the real world problems we’ll face to inhabit Mars one day,” HP said in a statement.

Security on internet-connected devices hasn’t kept pace with a market that is expected to grow to 20.4 billion IoT devices globally by 2020. Gadget designers to tend to make IoT devices as simple as possible, which can often mean sacrificing security.
