The GSMA Mobile World Congress (MWC) is the biggest gathering for the mobile industry. All the key players from the mobile industry come to showcase their latest products & services every year in Barcelona, Spain. This year, MWC 2017 starts from Monday, February 27 to Thursday March 2.
This 4-day event will have more than 2,200 companies including Google, HTC, Huawei, Intel, Lenovo, LG, Microsoft, Nokia, Samsung and Sony exhibiting their products and services. Big brands like O2, Vodafone, Ford, Mercedes-Benz and Volkswagen are also going to attend the event.
Companies like Sony, LG and Huawei are expected to unveil their new flagship smartphones and talk on Virtual Reality and Augmented Reality this year. Michael O’Hara, chief marketing officer at the GSMA, said, “over the past three decades, the mobile has evolved from an emerging communications technology to a phenomenon that is now at the foundation of everything we do. It has inextricably changed how we communicate, interact, work and play as individuals, and it’s transforming entire industries, bringing new levels of productivity and efficiency to enterprises. The 2017 edition of Mobile World Congress will highlight just how elemental mobile has become in our everyday lives and the positive impact it is having for billions of people around the world.”
With more than 101,000 attendees, the event will feature 300 speakers and a series of lectures, speeches and roundtable discussions with industry experts. Speakers include John Hanke, founder and CEO of Niantic, which makes Pokemon Go, Reed Hastings, founder and CEO of Netflix, and Rajeev Suri, President and CEO of Nokia, Eric Xu (Xu Zhijun), Deputy Chairman of the Board, Rotating CEO, Huawei, Masayoshi Son, Founder, Chairman and CEO, SoftBank.
There are strong rumors that new smartphone models like BlackBerry Mercury, Huawei P10, P10 Plus, Moto G5, LG G6, HTC M10 etc., will be launched. Sony is planning to unveil its five new smartphones with the flagship having a 5.5-inch 4K display, and a Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 processor at MWC.
MWC 2017 will be more than mobile technologies. Products based on new, emerging technologies like artificial intelligence, drones, the Internet of Things (IoT), robotics, Virtual Reality and Augmented Reality etc., are also expected to be displayed.
